Featured in TIR Episode 277: Grammy Award-winning jazz saxophone, flute and bass player as well as composer and producer Gerald Albright, who since the late 1980s has released some 20 albums. Six of those hit No. 1 on the Contemporary Jazz Albums chart.
Beginning in the late 1970s as a sessions player, he has also contributed to hundreds of works by dozens of top name talents. Those include Patrice Rushen, Teena Marie, Rick James, Dazz Band, Maurice White and Earth Wind & Fire, Anita Baker, Howard Hewitt, Whitney Houston, Barry White, Gladys Knight, Tony! Toni! Tone!, Nina Simone, Smokey Robinson, Jeffrey Osbourne, Babyface and many others.
He performed at Bill Clinton’s inauguration, and in 2021 received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from Joe Biden. He continues to perform, and his most recent projects are a pair of EPs titled G-Stream.

Among his career highlights are being in the first formation of Rick James’ Stone City Band and co-writing the classic, “Mary Jane,” also playing in Philip Bailey’s protege group, Splendor, and assisting his brother, Bobby Nunn, with his two successful 1980s solo albums, one of which contained the synth-funk banger, “She’s Just a Groupie.”
Enshrined in the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame in 2015, now based in Las Vegas, he continues to perform today.

Featured in TIR Episode 273 (Part 2 of 2): R&B singer and composer Meli’sa Morgan. Releasing her first of six albums in 1986, she saw three of her first four LPs ascend to the R&B Top 40. Those records included eight Top 20 R&B hits, among them the No. 1 Prince-penned smash “Do Me, Baby,” as well as “Do You Still Love Me,” “If You Can Do It: I Can Too,” the Mothers’ Finest classic “Love Changes” and the Al Green remake “Still in Love With You.”
Along the way she collaborated with Paul Lawrence, Kashif, James J.T. Taylor and Freddie Jackson. Morgan has come out of the pandemic lull swinging with her most successful track in some time. “Footprints of an Angel” marries mournful lyrics with an upbeat tempo, a catchy Motown-informed melody and an inspired vocal performance. Up for Grammy consideration, it is from the feature film of the same name, in which she also co-stars.
