Featured in TIR Episode 149: Ivan Neville, a prolific keyboardist, singer and composer, and a member of New Orleans’ celebrated musical Neville family. Recording professionally since the early 1980s, Ivan has released four solo albums and been one of the industry’s busiest session players. Among those whose records he has appeared on, and in many cases performed with, are the Rolling Stones, Keith Richards, Bonnie Raitt, Dr. John, Gov’t Mule, Buddy Guy, Jerry Lee Lewis, Angie Stone, Phoebe Snow, Paula Abdul, Don Henley, Robbie Robertson, Rufus, the Spin Doctors, Stevie Salas and so many more.
He is also the leader of Dumpstaphunk, one of the funkiest bands to emerge this millennium. Since 2003, the group has scorched concert stages, grinding out a mix of original tracks along with blistering renditions of funk-rock classics by the likes of Graham Central Station, Betty Davis, Led Zeppelin, the Meters, Mother’s Finest, Parliament-Funkadelic, Mandrill, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and many more.

First appearing with the group for its 1974 masterwork Skin Tight album, he was a primary figure during the Ohio Players’ mid to late 1970s peak years on Mercury Records.
During the 1980s he went on to work on countless projects with others including Roger Troutman and continues to perform with the Ohio Players today. In terms of both dexterity and tonal coloring of the music, he is one of funk’s most underrated keyboard players.
In what may be the most comprehensive accounting ever of the band, Beck covers the gamut of Ohio Players creativity, output, triumphs, personalities and hardships. He also discusses his approach to keyboards and arrangements, including his kinship with Parliament-Funkadelic's Bernie Worrell.

Also a prominent composer, producer and arranger, his nearly 50-year career has been distinguished by being a founding member of the great, progressive 1970s band Pleasure; playing a central role in the early 1980s synth-funk group Shock; and then spent many years with popular funk-R&B act the Dazz Band.
