Featured in TIR Episode 198, Part 2 of 2: Bassist and composer Robert Harper! Growing up in Southern California’s Carson community, he was influenced and inspired by exposure to music stars like Chuckii Booker, Barry White collaborator Terence Thomas, Teena Marie and Ice-T associate Bendrix Williams, Crusaders offspring Wilton Felder Jr. and Brian O'Neal of The Bus Boys.
Gigging regularly as an ace session player, Harper worked with late, great fellow bassists Louis Johnson of the Brothers Johnson and Robert Wilson of the Gap Band. In recent years, he has carved out a solo career with a pair of albums and an EP. Featured in TIR Episode 197: Blues-rock guitar phenom, singer and composer Eric Gales! Since bursting onto the scene as a 16-year-old prodigy as part of the Eric Gales Band’s self-titled 1991 debut album, the left-handed player has gone on to release 11 more studio albums -- all of them overflowing with soaring riffs and blistering solos that have distinguished him as one of the top guitarists of his generation.
Having toured almost continuously for several years leading up to the pandemic, as his additional live releases document, Gales also consistently lights the stage afire. Besides his own releases, his equally worthwhile side projects include the hard rocking Pinnick Gales Pridgen, the jazzy Eric Gales Trio, Supersonic Blues Machine, Experience Hendrix Tours, and guest spots on records with fDeluxe, Bootsy Collins and Jellybean Johnson. His next album, due out by early 2022, is produced by fellow blues-rock guitar shredder Joe Bonamassa.

Featured in TIR Episode 196 (Part 2 of 2): Singer/songwriter/producer Kipper Jones! Starting out as a Motown session singer in Los Angeles while still just a teen, he would go on to lead the vastly underappreciated 1980s funk band Tease, and collaborate with some of black music’s biggest stars.
Those successes include spearheading Vanessa Williams’ vocal stardom with hits like “The Right Stuff” and “The Comfort Zone,” Brandy’s “I Wanna Be Down” and “Baby,” Kenny Lattimore’s “Never Too Busy,” and films like Robert Townsend’s “The Five Heartbeats.” Other artists he has been associated with include Anita Baker, Teddy Pendergrass, Teena Marie, Lauryn Hill, Sly Stone, Paul Jackson, Chante Moore, Brian McKnight, Chaka Khan, Tevin Campbell, Boyz II Men, Wayman Tisdale and Patti Austin.
In all, he has been part of seven Top 20 and three No. 1 R&B hits. His solo work includes last year’s remake of Rose Royce’s classic, “Wishing on a Star,” and he also hosts the “Know Better With Kipper Jones” podcast.
