First establishing herself in the late 1970s with the band Mtume, she would go on to work with James Mtume-Reggie Lucas produced acts like Stephanie Mills and Phyllis Hyman before blazing her own trail as one of the music industry’s most in-demand session singers.
During the past several decades, she has collaborated with Narada Michael Walden, J. Other artists he has worked with include Charley Pride, Johnnie Taylor and Phil Collins. He has also recorded and performed under his own name as well as leading the groups Funk Circus and the Classic Soul Orchestra.
Also present are longtime James Brown sideman Hollie Farris (trumpet), who joined bean working with the Godfather of Soul in the mid-1970s, and vocalist Cynthia "First Sister" Moore, who performed with J.B. from the early 1990s until his death in December 2006. Farris played on many Brown hits, including "Body Heat," "Get Up Offa That Thing," "The Spank" and "Eyesight."
These three J.B. veterans and present-day carriers of the icon's torch share intimate memories, experiences and amusements recounted from their stage and studio time with Soul Brother No. 1.
