Featured in TIR Episode 267 (Part 1 of 2): Bassist Rustee Allen, best known as bass icon Larry Graham’s successor in Sly & the Family Stone. First catching on with Sly Stone protege act Little Sister, Allen would go on to be featured on Sly & the Family Stone’s classic mid-1970s albums Fresh, Small Talk and High on You.
Others he has recorded and/or performed with through the years include the Edwin Hawkins Singers, Lenny Williams, the Temptations, Angela Bofill, George Clinton, Bobby Womack and Robin Trower. Having just released a funky new song called “Gonna Take More,” Allen has also launched his own YouTube show.

Featured in TIR Episode 267 (Part 2 of 2): Drummer, keyboardist and composer Sam Carter, who is best known for his work with one of the greatest funk bands ever – Slave – as well as its offshoot group, Steve Arrington’s Hall of Fame.
Carter, who often collaborated with his horn-playing brother Charles (a.k.a. Cedell), contributed to such seminal albums as Slave’s “Show Time” in 1981 – which has just been reissued (https://iconoclassicrecords.com/album/show-time/) – and Steve Arrington’s Hall of Fame 1983 debut. The former included classic songs like “Snapshot” and “Wait for Me,” while the latter included top-tier tracks like “Way Out,” “Nobody Can Be You But You” and one of the all-time favorite jams, “Weak at the Knees.”
Coming from a jazz-oriented foundation, Sam Carter appeared on Slave releases through 1990 and later transitioned to a long career working in higher education.

A classically trained musical prodigy, from 1970-1983 Bernie Worrell was a core architect of P-Funk’s innovative sound and wrote dozens of all-time great funk songs. He continued to blaze a sonic trail by lending his singular stylings to recordings by the Talking Heads, Bill Laswell, Mtume, Bootsy Collins, Keith Richards, Ginger Baker, the Pretenders, Doug Wimbish, Les Claypool and many others.
He also released a dozen albums under his own name and toured with the Woo Warriors and Bernie Worrell Orchestra. Bernie Worrell, who passed in June 2016, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 with 15 other members of Parliament-Funkadelic, and his musical impact and importance, particularly on electronic keyboards, cannot be overstated.
Here, his wife and business partner of some 50 years, who elected to appear off-camera, provides a rare account of her talented husband's music and life.

The daughter of jazz saxman Hans Dulfer, Candy is a dynamic live performer who since 1990 has released 12 studio albums and worked with dozens of name acts, including Dave Stewart, Maceo Parker, the Time, Mavis Staples, Aretha, Pink Floyd, Blondie and Sheila E.
Especially exciting is that she has a brand new album; it’s called We Never Stop and includes a collaboration with Nile Rodgers.
