Featured in TIR Episode 307: Bassist Nathan Watts, best known as a longtime Stevie Wonder collaborator and his eventual musical director. His playing is featured on seminal Wonder albums like Songs in the Key of Life, Hotter Than July and A Time to Love. He is heard on classic songs like “I Wish,” “Did I Hear You Say You Love Me,” “I Ain’t Gonna Stand for It,” “Front Line,” “Do I Do,” “These Three Words,” “My Love Is on Fire” and most recently, “Can’t Put It in the Hands of Fate.”
Among many other notable credits, he has worked extensively with the Jacksons, Lenny Williams, Teena Marie, the Pointer Sisters, Lionel Richie, Billy Preston, Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, the Temptations, Paul McCartney, Ray Parker and Deniese Williams. He also recalls an emotional experience with Prince.
Besides mastering the bass, he once considered becoming an accountant and much later earned a doctorate in Theology.

With influences like the Meters and the JB’s, since 1994 Galactic has released 10 studio albums and established itself as one of this millennium’s most authentic funk-oriented groups.
A precision act on stage, the band has continued to challenge itself and listeners by incorporating traditional and progressive electronic and rap elements into its musical lexicon. A creatively restless spirit, Stanton has embodied his name by always seeking to do more through his rhythmic gifts. That has manifested in several solo, as well as ongoing & one-off band projects, along with dozens of session calls and countless performances.
In 2017, having done instructional books and videos, he established the Stanton Moore Drum Academy.

The band released three albums between 1975-1979, largely flying under the radar, charting a pair of singles. Those were “Why Not Today” and “Let’s Dance.”
The group, which included his brother J.D. Burrise on lead vocals and percussion, appeared on TV’s “Soul Train,” and toured with James Brown, Con Funk Shun, The Main Ingredient, The Sylvers and the Whispers. Hampered by an illicit scandal involving their recording studio, The 9th Creation continued to release new music well into the 1980s, as well as more recent reissues. Discover one of funk's best-kept secrets!
More recently, Burrise has released smooth jazz albums with the group Analysis.
