Featured in TIR Episode 305 (Part 1 of 2): Flutist, multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer, arranger and producer David Pic Conley, best known as an original member of one of the 1980s’ most successful R&B acts, Surface. From 1986-1990, the trio landed three albums in the R&B Top 20 and scored nine consecutive Top 10 R&B hits. Those songs were “Happy,” “Lately,” “I Missed,” “Closer Than Friends,” “Shower Me With Your Love,” “You Are My Everything,” “Can We Spend Some Time,” “All I Want” and “The First Time,” which went to No. 1 on the R&B as well as Pop and AC charts.
Were that not enough, he has also worked with stars like Mandrill, Sister Sledge, New Edition, Gwen Guthrie, Isaac Hayes, Rebbie Jackson, the Jets, Jermaine Jackson, Melba Moore, Stanley Jordan and Aretha Franklin.

Burrise, best known as an original member of the Northern California-based funk and soul group, The 9th Creation. The band released three albums between 1975-1979, largely flying under the radar, charting a pair of singles. Those were “Why Not Today” and “Let’s Dance.”
The group, which included his brother J.D. Burrise on lead vocals and percussion, appeared on TV’s “Soul Train,” and toured with James Brown, Con Funk Shun, The Main Ingredient, The Sylvers and the Whispers. Hampered by an illicit scandal involving their recording studio, The 9th Creation continued to release new music well into the 1980s, as well as more recent reissues. More recently, Burrise has released smooth jazz albums with the group Analysis.

She also shares some stories on Chaka's relationship and shows with Prince.
A former beauty pageant finalist, she has also released a pair of solo albums, and this September will be among the honorees at the National R&B Music Society’s Annual Gala Awards.

Featured in TIR Episode 301: Bass and keyboard player, and composer Kayode Adeyemo, a founding member of Starpoint -- one of the top R&B bands of the 1980s. Led by the lead vocals of Renee Diggs and featuring the Phillips’ family of four multi-instrumentalist brothers, Starpoint released 10 albums from 1980-1990. Four of those records reached No. 32 or higher on the R&B charts.
The band notched a dozen Top 40 R&B hits, including the crossover classic, “Object of My Desire,” in 1985. Adeyemo also co-wrote 1988’s pop smash, “Girl, You Know It’s True,” for Milli Vanilli.

Featured in TIR Episode 300 (Part 2 of 2): Keyboardist, singer, composer and producer Theophilus Coakley, best known as founder and leader of the funk and disco band T-Connection. The group, which included his younger brother Kirkwood Coakley on bass, released eight albums from 1977 through 1984. Those featured six Top 40 R&B singles and five Top 10 dance hits, including the No. 1 song, “Do What You Wanna Do.”
Among the classic funk jams from throughout their recording history was “Lady of the Night,” “Peace Line,” “Funkannection,” “Funky Lady,” “Coming Back for More,” “Groove City,” “Everything Is Cool,” “I Like Funkin’ With You,” “Totally Connected,” “Superstar” and “Anything Goes.”
